Our Open Letter

We, the undersigned, know there is a path to a better future for the UK. We pledge to take that path.

A modern, representative government will enable exciting new and sustainable ways of working for the UK. If a democratic alliance came together to achieve that by implementing a truly representative electoral system, it will excite public interest in the next general election and earn the backing of many groups whose work would be advanced.

Together, we follow in the footsteps of the many movements and passionate citizens that have come before us.

For decades campaigns like ours have roared and made positive change happen. They have fought for equal rights, against illegal wars, for the active protection of our environment, our public services, for the futures of workers, for the rights of those forgotten, abused, and discriminated against.

People come together, work together, and win together.

Democracy’s ongoing improvement is critical as it underpins all of society’s intricate and interconnected challenges. Better political decision-making benefits everyone: not left, not right, just forward.

To enable the kind of thriving future we know is possible – and have collectively been campaigning on for decades – we urgently need to upgrade the moth-eaten, unrepresentative, inherently hostile mechanisms of democracy.

This starts with a diverse and influential group of groups, a community of communities, coming together to work together, calling with a united voice for the obvious improvements our democracy needs to allow movement on any and all of our issues. It sees us working together, and winning together.

We support these steps to set in motion a better future:

1 The formation of a strategic democratic alliance of candidates and parties, right now, who will work together by standing single democratic alliance candidates in every constituency across the country to win the next General Election

2 The first order of business for the transitionary government will be to implement a truly representative electoral system.

3 Britain’s first modern election using this upgraded system, scheduled to run within 2 years.

If this alliance is formed and the above steps agreed, our community of communities will collectively support and campaign for alliance candidates.

We know that a modern democratic system will not only be far more representative of the people of the country, but will also be able to deliver on their real needs and aspirations, the same we have spent decades fighting for.

We choose not just to survive, but to thrive.
